Simply Martha's Ultimate Chocolate Banana Bread Recipe

So I must seriously like you a lot (and crazy) to be sharing one of my most tried and tested recipes! (My mom has tried this recipe to vouch the fact I've tried this at least 20 times!)

But with practise means (hopefully) perfection. This recipe it not only amazing because it taste like an absolute dream.... you think I'm exaggerating ( the joke is on you then😉). But it has amazing other qualities that make this a great recipe and the back bone for other cooking recipes too!

Did I mention it can adjusted to a vegan and gluten free version too?! Did this day just get better😛

This recipe has so many up sides, there is no down sides!

💚It's protein packed

💚Ridiculously chocolatey

💚High in Fibre

💚Super healthy (no naughtiness here!)

💚High in Iron

💚Antioxidants rich

💚Free from Refined sugar

+ IT HAS LOTS OF BANANANANANANANAS (my personal favourite reason!)

This recipe is the back bone for many other recipes that I made too- Don't want a 'bread' type finish? NOT A PROBLEM, your girl fit foodie here🙋 (enthuses on the foodie part today!) has got your back, you can make this into-

Mug cake 👉Pancakes 👉Muffins 👉Overnight oats        (adjusted cooking times for all)

So here are the ingredients for this bangin' banana bread bonanzzaaaa (can you tell I like alliterations yet?😜)

- 1 cup of rolled oats (gluten free oats can be used the same)
- 1 tbsp of Maca Powder
- 4-5 tbsp of Cacao Powder (depending on how chocolatey you want it- so me I have 6😂)
-2 eggs (chia eggs for vegan version)
- 1 tbsp of cinnamon
- 2-3 scoops of your choice of Protein Powder*

- 1/4 cup of honey or maple syrup for vegan version) or extra banana!🍌
- 3-5 bananas (overripe the better)

*Can be omitted from recipe*

-  Any toppings you want!

Step 1

Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees clerics, and use coconut oil to grease the bread dish (or another baking tray or muffin tins you're using), or you can use grease-proof paper instead!

Step 2

Grab your bananas and blend them until liquid (I used a Nutribullet throughout the recipe however a food processor will do too! if a electric whisk is used results may vary (but thats okay too!)

Health benefits of bananas🍌💗

💗Contains fibre, Vitamin C and antioxidants

💗Bananas help relieve muscle cramps (making it great post- workout)

💗Bananas are slow realising (great for a pre-workout too!)

💗Contains nutrients to moderate blood sugar levels (therefore reducing spikes later on)

💗High in potassium, which helps with digestion and keeping muscle contracts smooth and healthy

Step 3

Crack the egg, and put them into the banana liquid and blitz them up until well mixed through!🍳+🍌=💧

Step 4

Place all the dry ingredients into the mixture and blend until everything has combined and has no lumps or bumps! (I'd recommend adding the oats in last!)

Adding Cacao powder will help

give you that 'chocolatey' flavour

but without the guilt, because Cacao

is the raw state of chocolate

 before its cooked.

Meaning it is its super rich in

💙Antioxidants

💙Iron

💙Healthy fats

💙Potassium

And health benefits include

💙Hormone balancer

💙lowers blood pressure

💙better skin and nails

Using oats instead of flour

makes it better quality of carbohydrate

then flour, making you fill fuller for longer!

Health benefits of cinnamon❤

❤High in Antioxidants and

 ❤anti-inflamortary

❤Helps stable blood sugar levels

❤Protects heart health

❤Natural way to sweeten foods

 (no sugar here!)

(This of course can be omitted from the recipe)

Benefits to adding Protein powder

to this recipe (or any)

💜A way of getting extra protein

(without having to have meat or fish)

💜Means you can have

more treats!😉

💜More pratical to get

more protein in your diet

💜Helps you feel fuller for longer

Reasons honey can be good for you!

  (in the right amounts)

 🍯Organic honey can be

 high in antioxidants

🍯Honey lowers LDL,

but raises in HDL ( the 'good' cholesterol)

making it better for diabetics

 then regular table sugar

🍯A 'less bad' version of a

sweetener (but still use it in MODERATION!)

Adding Maca powder provides

💛Can actually improve mood

💛Helps endurance perfomance

💛High in Iron

Maple Syrup for the vegan version!

*The honey or maple syrup part can again be omitted, and add an extra banana for some natural sugar and goodness!*

Although I'm not completely against adding sugar, sometimes I find it unnecessary, and I just wanted an extra excuse to use more bananas. But honestly I find not much difference in taste or texture in using honey (or maple syrup) for a banana. But honestly thought it could be added in for a extra lil dose of sweetness, so totally go with what you want, I'm here for you either way💁

Step 5

BLEND BABY BLEND! *sung to the tune of disco inferno*

Blend all the ingredients together! Now it should look like a brown gloopy mess, but tasting oh so delicious- this is when you gotta try before you buy kinda thing and take a sneaky lil taste whilst no ones looking see example- ME!

I Approved!

And then ate too much bread mixture and realised i needed

to save some for Mom and Ian- KIDDING! (I ate the whole thing, no regrets✌😏)

Step 6

Place the mixture into a bread tin, either use grease proof paper or grease the tine with coconut oil.

Now time for adding your topping choice, I added some dried banana chips (tesco) or I've added some melted dark chocolate and drizzled on top before (that went down really well!) I'm struggling to remember if I said this was healthy or not now😂

 Step 7

Let it cook for around 15-20 minutes, then check with a skewer to see its all cooked through. My personal preference is to slightly undercook them, so it has a 'melt in the middle' finish to it- makes it extra tasty😋

Now you gaze at the beautiful creation you've just made😻-

and workout

how quickly you can eat it before anyone notices you made it

in the first place. Just me?

Some banana loving'💛🍌🎉

When's this perfect for?

Do you need need an excuse to eat dessert?! #foodieindahouse🙈

but this chocolate banana bread also makes for a perfect post workout snack because its high in Protein (therefore repairing the muscles after the workout).

Or it's great for that 3 o'clock slump when you just want a little treat, and it's totally guilt free! (unless you're like me and end up eating the whole batch after making it- GUILTY🙊😅)

Because I've made this recipe so many times now, I am constantly changing things, adding more, taking away ingredients. So always tailor make something to how you like! Although I have given out measuring units for this recipe, I most of the time just estimate so I get a little experimental with the ingredients😋

Cooking can be both healthy but tasty!

Until next time...
